You Think You're Not Creative?

I hear many people make this comment when it comes to creativity;

“Oh, I could never do that – I’m just not creative!”

When we think about creativity, we often imagine people who have brilliant skills with a paintbrush, have a knack for making their home look beautiful, or effortlessly write or speak with total eloquence.

Do YOU consider yourself to be creative? I challenge you to look at yourself in a new and fresh way today – you DO possess great creative ability!

Creativity is in Your DNA!

Before the beginning of time, God has been the expert when it comes to creating something out of nothing; He made the earth and the universe, all animals and humans. But His creation doesn’t stop there; He also has created everything that exists in the spiritual, emotional and mental realms. Through our Creator, we are able to experience His creations of love, hope, empowerment and courage, just to name a few.

As a human being, you are designed with the DNA of God. In Genesis 1:26, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our Likeness; You may not be physically like God, nor are you all-knowing or perfect like our Creator. But you DO have a similar trait that makes the difference. Like God, you have been given the ability to create!

What stops the flow of creativity?

Focusing on your deficiencies runs you at the risk of limiting your creativity. Just as God spoke and said, “Let there be light” – and there WAS light, you have the power to speak and create your own reality. Only your thoughts and words have the ability to limit you!

If I asked you to stand in front of a mirror and tell me what you see, how would you respond? Chances are you are more likely to hone in on that small bump on your nose, or the hair (or lack of hair!) that just won’t behave the way you want it to.

Go ahead and try this exercise. And instead of looking at yourself in a critical way, I challenge you to take a long close look and respond with, “Gorgeous!”

This is a simple example of how your viewpoint of self can stop the flow of creativity into your life. A mindset focused on lack has the power to bring your creativity to a screeching halt.

Let the Creative Juices Flow!

There are MANY ways to express your creative abilities! Creativity does not only exist in the area of artistic flair. It shows up in every element of your life; your creativity not only adds value to your life, but also to those around you.

What personal creative abilities do you have that you have taken for granted?

Are you naturally able to create intriguing conversation?

Does creating laughter come naturally to you?

Are you gifted at creating an environment of trust and inclusion?

Do you create energy and excitement when around others?

Take the limits off the creative contributions you bring to the world! Dare to see yourself in a new light! Take note of your “hidden” creative abilities and ask how you may expand them to have even greater impact! Your God-given creative DNA has the power to change you, those around you, and the world!

Go forth, and CREATE!
